Fueled by an unwavering passion for wildlife, Hrishikesh Sabnis has embarked on an incredible photographic journey. Let's hear about the story behind his flamingo shot in his own words:
"Hi, I am Hrishikesh Sabnis, an IT professional by occupation and a passionate nature photographer.
I started my photography journey long ago with a PowerShot S2 IS point-and-shoot camera 20 years back. Gradually, I upgraded to the EOS 550D with a 50mm f/1.8 lens and a 100-400mm L IS USM lens, then to the EOS 7D, the EOS 5D Mark III, and finally, my current setup—the R5 with a 500mm f/4 L IS II USM EF lens. Over the years, my passion for bird photography has grown, and my weekends are now dedicated to birding around Bangalore, where I am settled.
One fine evening, during a boat ride at Ujani Backwaters (Bhigwan Bird Sanctuary), we came across a group of Greater Flamingos, busy feeding, drinking, and interacting among themselves. We anchored our boat at a vantage point, just as the sun was setting, creating a magical golden backdrop.
We waited patiently for some action to unfold. To our luck, two flamingos engaged in a dramatic display of fighting, right next to a group of tranquil individuals who were drinking. The water shimmered like gold under the setting sun, and the droplets falling from the flamingo’s beak added to the beauty of the image.
This particular shot, captured with my EOS 80D, is a testament to the power of dedication and the thrill of the chase."
